(KMOV) -- The Washington Park Police Chief said officers arrested three people overnight, when they were caught firing guns into the air.
Friday, Chief David Clark said the department would not tolerate the gun play. He said the department would boost patrols to answer shots fired calls.
However, the patrols were in jeopardy after some officers began calling into work.
Thursday, three senior officers called in. Friday, five did not report to work their shifts. Chief Clark said he believes the officers called in after he changed their schedules. Wednesday, he posted new schedules - ordering officers to work 12-hour shifts during the holiday weekend.
Saturday, three of the officers reported to work on New Year's Eve.
Chief Clark said some of the officers would face disciplinary action. He would not name the officers.
The city and police union have also been unable to reach an agreement on a contract.
The three suspects arrested on New Years were caught firing guns in the 1500 block of N. 54th Street. An automatic assault rifle, a shotgun, and other handguns were seized.
The suspects were arrested, then released pending formal charges.
